Heart-healthy diet is the consumption of food in proper proportions that is suitable for the heart. This diet should not be combined with a high level of stress or any other factor which may cause heart muscle fatigue. The following are some of the heart-healthy diet;

1. Fatty fish are also heart-healthy diet

This diet is a source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids, which are good for the heart. This diet contains omega-3 fatty acid EPA and DHA which help to prevent heart failure in people with heart attacks. Recommended fish for this diet include mackerel, salmon, sardines and tuna.

2. Do not over eat fatty food

This diet should be combined with regular exercise for better health results. Fatty foods increase the circulatory cholesterol level, causing the buildup of plaque in blood vessels. Regular physical exercise helps to counter the negative effects of consuming high fat food on blood lipids levels and can completely eliminate them in a person’s body.

3. Avoid trans fats in the diet

Trans fats are harmful for heart health as it increases the level of bad cholesterol and lowers the level of good cholesterol. It also causes lipid build-up in blood vessels which can lead to heart failure. Trans fat intake should be reduced with a proper diet plan that is rich in omega 3 fatty acids, which blocks the receptor sites of LDL (bad cholesterol) and increase the levels of good cholesterol. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish, flax seed oil, nuts and leafy green vegetables.

4. Avoid anti-inflammatory foods

This diet should not be combined with diarrhea, toothaches, sore throats or flu. All of these conditions are associated with inflammation of organs and tissues in the body. Anti-inflammatory foods should be eliminated in a person who has one of these conditions and should not be consumed until the condition is completely gone. Recommended food for this diet include dark green leafy vegetables excluding spinach. The recommended food from this diet include spinach which is known to have anti-inflammatory properties.

5. Avoid dehydration drinks

This diet is not advised for people who have problems with their digestive system, kidney disorders or any other systemic illness. It should not be combined with alcohol and cold drinks either. This diet should be taken in small amounts at meal times and should not be consumed along with anything hot.

6. Exercise regularly

This diet encourages regular exercise to maintain physical health that promotes a healthy heart. People who practice regular exercise are less likely to develop heart problems compared to those who do not practice any type of physical activity on a regular basis, although exercising does not guarantee a healthy heart. Regular walking, jogging and swimming are the best exercises for this diet.
